Before getting into the discussion let՚s quickly revise language terminologies used by the Nyaya system:

  • Pada is translated as the unit of language which denotes word-meaning;
  • Padartha is the meaning of the word and is individual qualified by universal; and,
  • Padarthas are known as categories because they՚re jneya and abhidheya, i.e.. , knowable and expressible.
