Mendelian Disorders in Humans-Thalassemia
Thalassemia
- Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder caused by mutations in the genes responsible for the production of hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. The inheritance pattern of thalassemia is autosomal recessive.
- Thalassemia is caused by mutations in either the alpha or beta globin genes, and humans inherit two copies of these genes (one from each parent).
- If an individual inherits one normal copy of the gene and one mutated β¦

Structure of DNA and RNA
Polynucleotide
- A polynucleotide is a polymer made up of individual nucleotide units linked together through phosphodiester bonds. These polymers form the backbone of nucleic acids like DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid).
- The basic building blocks of a polynucleotide is nucleotides. Each nucleotide consists of three main components: a phosphate group, a pentose sugar (deoxyribose in DNA or ribose in RNA), and a nitrogenous base (adenine, thyβ¦
